On April 19, Bill Baker, president of Mint Records stopped by to lecture the Film and Music Business class on contracts and hold a Q&A session.

In 1991, friends and campus radio enthusiasts Randy Iwata and Bill Baker founded Mint Records Inc., an indie label based in Vancouver, BC, Canada. Their vision was to create a company that celebrated the all the fantastic talent they saw in Vancouver. Since its birth in 1991, Mint has grown significantly and put out over 110 releases by such artists as The Organ, Neko Case, The New Pornographers, cub, Lou Barlow, the Pack A.D. and many many others.

In just the past five years, Mint has more than doubled its staff, with 5 people working out of the newly expanded Vancouver office, and 1 person based in Toronto. Mint also recently started up Mintunes Inc., an arm of the label tasked with administering publishing for both Mint and non-Mint artists , and with more aggressively developing the label's presence in the area of music licensing.

With its international distribution and presence expanding every year, Mint Records Inc. is now laying the groundwork for its future stars with releases from The Pack A.D. Novillero, Kellarissa, The Buttless Chaps, The Awkward Stage, The Ramblin' Ambassadors, Vancougar, The Organ & Young And Sexy. 2009 is already ramping up to be a memorable year with confirmed releases on the way by Immaculate Machine, Carolyn Mark, the debut full length from Hot Panda and many more to be announced soon!
